It's been 22 years since 'Queer As Folk' premiered for the first time, quickly becoming a widely beloved
TV show by the queer community that went on for two seasons, starring Craig Kelly, Denise Black,
Charlie Hunnam and many other amazing British actors that made an amazing job representing
the marginalized queer community in the 90's. That was even more side-eyed back then than it is now.
Although these 20 years we have made some progress as a society with the LGBTQ+ community
we still have a long way to go as far as acceptance and rights.
And it's June is pride month, so there wasn't a better choice than releasing this reboot for the show
on June 9th, with the whole season available to stream on Peacock.
It's fresh out of the oven, so we don't have a lot of reviews on the internet, but so far, all of them
are positive, since the show keeps tackling important issues within the community and outside it
like hate crimes and shootings, like the one that happened not too long ago at a queer bar.
In this first season (we're still not clear if they are bringing it back for a second season),
the writers were not afraid at all to tackle important topics within the queer community
that we often don't see represented anywhere outside of the people talking on social media
and if you're a part of the community, it's heartwarming to see so many different lifestyles and realities
in a single show, especially since it's really rare to watch TV shows or movies like this.
If you have the time, and the possibilities, get your Peacock subscription and watch the show,
let's support more projects like this so the big producers get the hint and start picking up more
of this in the future.
