Apple TV+ just shared the first official look for 'Smoke', a new thriller series starring Welsh actor Taron Egerton ('Rocket Man') and American actress Jurnee Smollett ('Lovecraft Country') as an arson investigator and a detective with a difficult life, respectively, working together in order to find and stop two serial arsonits causing chaos.
The thriller will start streaming on Apple TV+ this June 27. 'Smoke' was originally 'Firebug', the same title as the true crime podcast the series was based on, with a screenplay by 'Black Bird' writer and creator Dennis Lehane.
'Black Bird' is another true crime series and one of the most successful Apple TV+ series, also starring Taron Egerton, so is not weird that the creator is teaming up with his past star for this other thriller inspired by real life events.
Other actors starring in 'Smoke' include John Leguizamo ('Bob Trevino Likes It'), Rafe Spall ('Prometheus'), Greg Kinnear ('Black Bird') and Ntare Mwine ('Dead Ringers'), with the production being full of talented actors that will only make it a more interesting thriller.
The series is based on a podcast investigating the connection between some fires that happened in the 1990's and a "fictional novel" published that felt too close to a confession letter about how every fire came to fruition, concluding in four murders within those fires.
We don't know how much of that is the series gonna adapt or how much it will strive from real life, but it looks like it will be a very grimm and dark environment overall, just like Lehane's previous work. 'Smoke' will consist of 9 episodes and will stream weekly, so make sure to look out for this thriller this Summer on Apple TV+.
