Based on a True Story, the dark comedy that stars and is executive produced by Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina on Peacock, has dropped the date announcement for season two, as well as the firsts official pictures. Season 1 follows Ava and Nathan as they navigate the challenges of parenthood while also trying to capitalize on America's obsession with true crime, and it was enthusiastically received by the platform's subscribers.
In Season 2, new parents Ava (Cuoco) and Nathan Bartlett (Messina) are three months into parenthood. Ava is definetly putting her true crime obsession aside and return to her career as a real estate agent. Meanwhile, Nathan focuses on training private tennis clients. However, a series of new murders draws Ava back into the world of true crime. Could Matt (Tom Bateman) be responsible for the slayings? Is Tory (Liana Liberato), now in a relationship with Matt, in danger? For a time, life seems perfect. Ava's TikTok addiction and her new friend Drew (Melissa Fumero) offer a welcome distraction, and Nathan shows determination to reviving his tennis career and his friendship with Matt. But then, danger arrives unexpectedly.
“I first discovered Based on a True Story as a fan of Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, and I instantly loved the show’s addictive blend of dark humor, pulpy action, and relatable characters,” says Showrunner and Executive Producer Annie Weisman for Deadline. “In Season 2, we’ve built on those exciting themes while introducing propulsive new character dynamics and a forward-moving murder mystery.”
Based on a True Story will premiere on Peacock on November 21 with all eight 30-minute episodes being out on that same day.
