British filmmaker Emerald Fennell ('Saltburn', 'Promising Young Woman'), is making a new 'Wuthering Heights' adaptation with Margot Robbie ('Barbie') leading as Catherine Earnshaw, also producing the film under her company LuckyChap Entertainment.
The project is in production since mid 2024, and in September Margot Robbie joined as actress and producer, opposite Jacob Elordi ('Euphoria') as Heathcliff. And just yesterday there was a leak of Margot Robbie in a wedding dress in the set of 'Wuthering Heights', with shooting starting back in January and still ongoing in the United Kingdom.
The other cast members include Oscar nominee Hong Chau ('The Whale') as Nelly Dean, Shazad Latif ('Penny Dreadful') as Edgar Linton and Alison Oliver ('Saltburn') as Isabella Linton, alongside them there's 3 young actors making their big screen debut in this production, with Charlotte Mellington, Owen Cooper, and Vy Nguyen playing the young versions of Catherine, Heathcliff and Nelly respectively.
Fennell's previous work has been fairly polarizing, and despite getting praise from some people she has received a lot of criticism for her writing, specially how she doesn't seem to be great at endings, or keeping consistency in the social commentary she tries to make throughout her films, and this adaptation has not been free of controversy, with the casting causing a lot of conversation between the fans of the original Emily Bronte's novel.
Fans of the book are saying the casting is a total miss, with Robbie and Elordi not fitting the descriptors or the essence of their characters while Latif and Oliver could perfectly fit those roles, and that the only reason Robbie is leading the cast is because of her producer credits.
We can only wait and see if the casting director made the right choice of February 13, 2026, when the movie is opening in theaters globally.
