The HBO's Harry Potter adaptation is moving forward slowly but surely, but we have recently found out about some of the cast that will be joining the production as the Hogwart's proffesors, but there's still no news about who will be the young talents to bring the main characters to life.
Despite the project being in development since 2021, the casting and production have been very slow but moving forward with Francesca Gardiner ('His Dark Materials') as one of the producers and the showrunner for the adaptation, alongisde Mark Mylod ('The Menu') who is directing several episodes and also executive producing.
We don't know more about the writers room for HBO's Harry Potter, but we do know that the series is going to be a max original, of course, and that John Lithgow ('Conclave') will be playing beloved Hogwart's main wizard Albus Dumbledor, with Janet McTeer ('Ozark') as Minerva McGonagall, Nick Frost ('Shaun of the Dead') as Hogwart's janitor Rubeus Hagrid.
So far, the most controversial casting decision has been Paapa Essiedu ('I May Destroy You') as Severus Snape, with people on the internet having a lot of negative opinions for the decision of casting a Black actor for a character they think of as white. The same thing happened in the past when a Black actress played Hermione in the play adaptation of the Harry Potter sequel.
The open casting for the series is still going on, and as the months past we will hear more and more about the new faces for the iconic characters, and production probably won't start until early next year, but expectations are high for this, since they are calling it a fatihful adaptation of the beloved middle age saga. Let's see how it turns out in the end, considering it's seven seasons ahead.
