After directing the hit series 'Adolescence' for Netflix, British director Philip Barantini is in consideration to direct the live action adaptation of 'The Alchemist', the famous book by author Paulo Coelho.
Paulo Coelho has been a best selling author since the 80's and 'The Alchemist' is one of his most famous books, so it's not a surprise that Legendary Entertainment is now going to produce a live action out of this, with Jack Thorne taking care of the screenplay.
Thorne has been writing for film and television for quite some time now, recently collaborating with Netflix in several projects, with Philip Barantini's 'Adolescence' being of them, so if he's taking care of the screenplay it only makes sense that he reunites with Barantini for this project since it can be equally relevant and intense.
'The Alchemist' follows a young shepherd who wants something more, something better, and in his journey looking for wealth, he end sup finding something much more important and satisfaying: himself, alongside the answers to questions he didn't even think of before that journey.
The project, that already has Sony's TriStar Pictures with a international distribution deal, will start production in 2026, so time will only tell if Barantini actually ends up directing this, and who will be taking on the role of bringing these characters to life. We'll keep updating as news come.
