British singer Rita Ora is one of the new names joining the growing cast of the 'VOLTRON' live action by filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber, alongside Sterling K. Brown, John Kim and Alba Baptista, with Henry Cavill and Daniel Quinn Toye taking the main roles for the movie as far as we know, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The news about the live action for this emblematic animated series from the 80's have been since the last VoltCon back in October, where the director was talking about his intentions with this new rendition and the direction he's planning to take with his adaptation of the iconic intellectual property.
Voltron has been around for decades, with even a fairly recent Netflix animated series with a lot attention and an intense fandom online, so it's not a surprise that a big studio like Amazon MGM wants to take action and make a big sci-fi feature film with the IP.
When talking about the upcoming movie, the writer and director stated that his intention is to keep as close as possible to the true essence of the original 'VOLTRON' cartoon, with a brand new generation of pilots that we don't know yet.
It's too early on the process to know for sure, and we're lacking too many details, but this can be a hit or a total disaster when it comes out. It all depends on how refreshing the script feels.
Let's hope that the studio is willing to take risks and let the writers do what they need to do instead of reusing the same tropes that keep giving remake, reboots and live action adaptations such a bad name.
