British filmmaker Raine Allen-Miller is working on her second feature film after the hit rom-com 'Rye Lane', the two times BAFTA nominee starring David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah, but she's not staying in the rom-com genre, instead moving to an original heist comedy by the 'The Roots Manoeuvre' with a screenplay by herself.
Amazon MGM's Orion Pictures is the main producer of the film, with a backing by the BBC Films and DJ Films, both of which already were executive producers for Raine Allen-Miller's first film, and they're planning for a theatrical release even before filming, meaning they're betting Allen-Miller will deliver the same level of quality as before.
About the cast we don't know anything at all, since the screenplay is still in the works, and the director hasn't said anything about if she's planning to work with Oparah as her lead again, since the main protagonist of this comedy is a young woman planning a difficult heist in the middle of a luxury wedding, only to recover a stolen artifact.
Setting will remain in London, and given the history of the wealthy of taking culturally significant pieces from other cultures, it wouldn't be a surprise if the film tackles these topics, but all of this is speculation until the production moves forward and we get more details.
Cast announcements and filming dates will probably be public by the end of the year, and if they're are going to follow the 'Rye Lane' path, 'The Roots Manoeuvre' will probably premiere in the festival circuit, since the first 'Rye Lane' screening was at Sundance where it made the best of impressions.
