The popular novel Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover will have its adaptation for film by Universal Pictures. The studio won the rights to the book in a competitive bidding process and plans to release the film in theaters on February 13, 2026, just before Valentine's Day. Hoover, the author of It Ends with Us, (which is currently on theaters starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni), and Levine are co-writing the screenplay for Reminders of Him.
The story for Reminders of Him follows Kenna Rowan, who returns to her hometown after serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake. Described as a "transformative feature film about motherhood, forgiveness and the power of one love to heal even the most shattered heart," the film explores Kenna's journey of motherhood, forgiveness, and the transformative power of love as Kenna longs to reunite with her young daughter, but everyone in her hometown seems determined to keep them apart. Actually, the only person who has not shunned her is Ledger Ward, the local bar owner, who becomes a significant figure in Kenna's life. In fact, the novel, published in 2022, has sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide.
For an exclusive with Variety, the author says “I am thrilled to be working with Universal to bring Kenna Rowan’s world to life,” Hoover says. In addition, he states “I hear from many readers who tell me they found something of themselves in her story of living with and through tragedy and doing the often messy and imperfect work of healing and turning the page to a fresh chapter in life. I am excited as Reminders of Him holds a special place in my heart too.”
