Arcane premiered on Netflix in November 2021 and quickly became one of the platform's favorite animated productions. With a story set in the League of Legends universe, the series managed to convince both the public and critics and proved to be one of the first success stories within productions that seek their inspiration in video games. As a result of this success, it was renewed for a new installment. Almost three years later, the Primetime Emmy-winning title is warming up for its return, but unfortunately for fans, it's not all good news.
After a first glimpse presented earlier this year, Netflix revealed a new trailer capable of raising any fan's expectations, giving clues about the meeting (and a possible confrontation) between sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell). However, the bitter part is that the second batch of episodes will indeed be the last of the series.
The announcement took many by surprise as Arcane became a beloved property for both video game fans and newcomers to its universe. Even so, it seems that the production team is choosing to follow their master plan without deviations that would extend the story any further than necessary.
Arcane will premiere in November. From what we could see so far, tensions between the protagonist sisters will increase as the war between Piltover and Zaun escalates. Considering how the first season ended, there may be no turning back for Jinx, but we'll have to wait a few months to get a better idea of what direction the Netflix series is going to take.
The series tackles issues such as social inequality, corruption and power, with stunning animation that combines traditional and CGI techniques, which has earned it acclaim from press and public alike.
