Although The Boys is still a few weeks away from returning to the Prime Video screen with its new batch of episodes, Amazon MGM Studios has already assured its continuity with the announcement of a fifth season. The news of the renewal became official during the streaming service's inaugural programming presentation, which also confirmed the launch of a Tomb Raider series and Spider-Man Noir.
“The Boys is a bold series that continues to captivate our customers around the world by challenging cultural norms season after season,” said Amazon MGM Studios' head of television Vernon Sanders. “We are proud of this series that has become a global franchise and are thrilled that Eric Kripke and the creative team have more gripping stories to tell all fans,” he added. “The Boys may be the best job I've ever had - what other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family and exploding genitalia, even if it's not in that order?” complemented Eric Kripke, The Boys' chief creative head.
Initially premiering in 2019, the series takes inspiration from the comic of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, whose plot follows a team of vigilantes in their fight against individuals endowed with powers who abuse their abilities. Over the course of three successful seasons, this adaptation managed to become a flagship for Amazon's streaming service, giving rise to animated and live-action spin-offs.
The Boys will premiere its fourth season on Prime Video on June 13, when the first three episodes will be out. The following episodes will continue to be available on a weekly basis, ending with the epic season finale on Thursday, July 18.
