Batman: Caped Crusader is Amazon Prime Video's next big animated project, and it already has its first official trailer. The series has brought together several industry heavyweights such as J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, director of 'The Batman', and Bruce Timm, the creator of The Batman: The Animated Series, the acclaimed television production of the 1990s.
It is clear from the trailer that Batman: Caped Crusader is being sell as an origin story for DC Comics' mythical hero. The Gotham police go on the hunt of Batman, while trying to find who he is and what his intentions are. The protagonist must not only deal with the persuit of the authorities, but also with the growing criminal activity that plagues the city. This first trailer is not short on introducing villains. Among them are Harley Quinn, The Penguin, and Harvey Dent/Two-Face. The big absentee from this Amazon Prime Video clip is the Joker, although that doesn't necessarily mean he won't appear in this production.
Batman: Caped Crusader was born as a proposal for Max. However, the HBO plataform abandoned its development and Amazon Prime Video took over. In fact, the animated series has already confirmed a second season on the aforementioned streaming service.
Just as the fans were expecting, the upcoming Batman series will have a dark and violent tone. And despite not being a continuation of the animated series of the nineties, Bruce Timm's hand is noticeable in the setting. The retro aesthetics of Gotham, the cars, the weapons and the evildoers is full proof of this. In fact, the whole setting is reminiscent of Batman: The Animated series.
Batman: Caped Crusader will arrive on the Prime Video platform on August 1.
