Andrew Scott, the renowned star of Fleabag and All Of Us Strangers, sheds his role as a priest to become a dangerous man in Ripley, Netflix's new miniseries that just released its first official teaser. The streaming platform showed a broader look at what promises to be its next big. In fact, in this TV fiction, Scott brings to life Tom Ripley, a character who navigates the world of deceit and swindling in early 1960s New York. Its premiere will be in April 4.
The story, which has been generating anticipation among Scott connoisseurs, is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novels and Steven Zaillian is the filmmajer, who also serves as executive producer. In addition, Zaillian, known for his writing work on The Irishman, directs all eight episodes of this dark and mysterious production.
Scott has told GQ UK in an interview that the role of Tom Ripley was particularly demanding for him and affected his health to such an extent that it made him question his career. "That character made me feel lonely," explained the 47-year-old performer. "I worked very hard and got pretty sick, physically and mentally. It took a big toll on me. When it was over, it made me think, 'How do I want to spend my life?' I love acting, but I don't think you have to do it too much," he detailed about his experience.
In Ripley, Scott brings to life a con man named Tom Ripley, who loves living on the edge, until he receives an offer from a wealthy man who commissions him to travel to Italy to convince his dissolute son (Johnny Flynn) to return home. As he accepts the job, Ripley is drawn into a life full of lies, fraud and murder.
