Once upon a time, there was a young girl born into poverty who, in order to free her family from hunger and misery, will have to marry to a wealthy prince. The fairy tale ends here, as the story of the new film Damsel deviates from romance to action when protagonist Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), discovers that it will actually be the sacrifice to feed a dragon in order to settle an ancestral debt, so she must use her cunning and determination to survive.
The Netflix production unveiled a poster showing Brown at the entrance of a cave, with the shadow of the winged beast lurking in the background and announced that the film will release in 2024. With an estimated cost of $60-70 million, the project was originally going to arrive on Netflix on October 13 of this year, but due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, the film will now arrive later. Despite these setbacks, the trailer should be available on Saturday, November 11, as part of the streaming service's Geeked Week celebration.
The cast includes Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Robin Wright (Wonder Woman), Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Nick Robinson (I Am Simon), Brooke Carter (The Irregulars) and Shohreh Aghdashloo (X-Men 3: The Final Battle). Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is the filmmaker and the screenplay is by Dan Mazeau.
The story 'Damsel' will not only stay on screen, but has already made the leap to bookstores. In April, a novel based on the feature film, written by New York Times bestselling author Evelyn Skye in collaboration with the Red "N" and Penguin Random House, was published.
