Napoleon is one of the most anticipated films of the remainder of 2023. Ridley Scott's epic film will star Joaquin Phoenix. In it, the veteran filmmaker will narrate the life of Napoleon Bonaparte and his conquests across Europe. The ambitious French military man has already received previous film adaptations but this may be the best. The film will arrive at the end of the year on November 24 but, to warm up the engines, Apple Studios has released its new and spectacular trailer.
The trailer introduces Phoenix as the general who gives the film its title. As soon as the film begins, his troops are discovered by the enemy. But in a stroke of genius, Bonaparte manages to organize an unlikely ambush on a frozen lake. By the time his rivals realize where their feet are, Napoleon bombards the area, shattering the ice sheet and causing them to drown. This is just one of several battles to look forward to in the footage.
After this start, what the trailer shows is the more personal side of Napoleon. Short but with a unique strategic mind, his desires were not only to rise in the French army. His ultimate aspiration, as he suggests, is to become Emperor, the most powerful man on the planet. "I follow in the footsteps of Alexander the Great and Caesar," he explains at one point. At the same time, the preview also shows his first encounters with Josephine de Beauharnais, his wife. The empress is played by Oscar nominee Vanessa Kirby. Undoubtedly, their relationship will be one of the backbones of Napoleon. "You want to be great, but you're nothing without me," Kirby comes to tell him in another scene.
After its theatrical release, Napoleon will also be available for streaming.
