Close to facing public scorn, Wilhelm (played by Edvin Ryding) and Simon Eriksson (Omar Rudberg) share an intimate and emotional moment at the Swedish palace during the first glimpse of the third season of Young Royals. The Netflix series, which debuted in 2021, reaches its finale next year, and the fans think the series should have a happy ending for one of the platform's most beloved series.
The original story follows the heir to the throne of Sweden, who enrolls in a prestigious boarding school. During his stay, he becomes attracted to Simon, a commoner student and choir singer. The denouement of the second installment was significant as the couple rebelled against the royal family, announcing their queer relationship in front of the citizens. This development foreshadows important implications in the next plot, as seen in the recent clip, where in addition to a restrained happiness, it highlights the nerves of both.
As confirmed by Netflix, filming was completed in June 2023, with subsequent posts of the actors saying goodbye to their characters. "I really can't take it in, but I'm so happy and proud. Can't wait for you guys to see the end of this story - this is THE season!" wrote Rudberg on his Twitter account. Meanwhile, in a conversation with The Tonight Show, Ryding also advanced that this finale will have the best episodes yet.
In addition to the main characters, other cast members such as Frida Argento, Malte Gårdinger and Nikita Uggla, will reprise their roles. Although there are no new members yet, Young Royals fans are expecting new things.
The third and final season of Young Royals will premiere in early 2024.
