Remakes seem to be the order of the day, and soon a new version of a cult classic from the 1980s will hit theaters. Legendary Entertainment has joined forces with Troma Entertainment to bring back The Toxic Avenger, a film that promises to mix action, comedy and horror in a fresh and contemporary approach. The fiction, directed and written by Macon Blair, is a reinvention of the 1984 film of the same name, and also becomes the fifth installment in The Toxic Avenger film series. New images, with a broader look at its talented cast, were released recently, and the transformations of the actors are more than remarkable.
Peter Dinklage led the stellar cast, who plays Winston, a weak man who works as a janitor at the Garb-X health club. The plot centers on his transformation into a deformed monster with superpowers after falling into a toxic waste pit, a metamorphosis that leads him on a crusade against those who have mistreated him. Joining Dinklage in this adventure are other familiar names such as young actor Jacob Tremblay (The Room), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) and Kevin Bacon (Footloose). Rounding out the cast are Taylour Paige, Sarah Niles, Julia Davis and Julian Kostov. Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz are also part of the cast.
With a running time of 102 minutes, the footage will capture the imagination of a new generation of viewers, while paying homage to a classic that has left a remarkable mark on pop culture. The Toxic Avenger will premiere as the opening film of Fantastic Fest on September 21. At this time, there is no set date for its international theatrical release.
