The last edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the 76th, brought us a good handful of titles to make moviegoers' mouths water, and one of them, logically, is the brand new Palme d'Or winner Anatomy of a Fall (Anatomie d'une chute) by the French Justine Triet, which from its very premiere there got the most positive reviews. The author of highly estimable titles such as 'Victoria' or 'Sibyl' is consecrated with a story that combines intimate marital drama with the most vibrant judicial thriller in a lurid game about what is truth and what is a lie.
Starring Sandra Hüller and Swann Arlaud, the official synopsis tells the story of Sandra (Hüller), a German writer who lives with her husband Samuel (Samuel Theis) and their blind son, Daniel (Milo Machado Graner), in a chalet in the middle of the French Alps. When Samuel dies under mysterious circumstances, the investigation is unable to determine whether it was suicide or homicide. After that, Sandra is under arrest and tried for murder, and the trial puts her tumultuous relationship and ambiguous personality in the spotlight, with the couple's son as one of the main witnesses in the case.
With a screenplay by Justine Triet herself and fellow actor Arthur Harari, Anatomy of a Fall opens in French theaters on August 23 and in Belgium on Wednesday, August 30. It is also already being other dates in other countries: in the United States it will be in a limited number of theaters on October 13. And to leave us wanting more, we can also take a good look at the trailer, in original version.
