Reports indicate that a new 21 Jump Street film is in development at Sony. However, unlike 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, the studio's latest project would not focus on Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill's characters, but would instead be a spin-off focus on Brie Larson's character. Molly Tracey, played by Larson, appeared in the first film of the saga as Schmidt's (Hill) love interest. However, her character did not return for the sequel to the hit comedy, so now the studio is reportedly considering the actress to reprise the character in her own story.
In 2015, it was first announced that a 21 Jump Street-inspired project centered on a female cast was in development at Sony. Rodney Rothman will direct the film, while Tiffany Haddish, Zendaya and Awkwafina appeared to be in negotiations to star in the project.
It wasn't until 2020 that it was revealed that the film, titled Jump Street: Now for Her Pleasure, had been written by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, although at the moment it is completely unknown if the project is still on the table within Sony or if it will be scrapped to focus on the Molly spin-off.
Daniel Ritchman gave the information about the spin-off, one of the Hollywood insiders claiming that the direction of the franchise will point to the film supposedly starring Brie Larson.
At the moment, Sony has not confirmed this information, nor revealed if there is any director or screenwriter involved in the Jump Street spin-off. However, sources assure that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who directed the first two films in the franchise, will not be part of the new stories that develop from the characters in that universe.
