Angelina Jolie brought a countersuit against her ex-husband Brad Pitt alleging a physical altercation between the ex-couple and their children that took place on a plane in 2016. Jolie and Pitt are at odds over Jolie's sale of her stake in their joint French winery, Chateau Miraval. Jolie sold her half of the winery in 2021 to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler.
Pitt sued Jolie in February, alleging that they had an agreement that neither would sell without the other's consent.
Jolie claims in her counterclaim that there was never such an agreement and that she sold her share of the winery in an effort to have "financial independence" from Pitt and to "have some form of peace and closure to this deeply painful and traumatic chapter in her and her children's lives."
Jolie alleges that, on the plane, Jolie asked Pitt "what was wrong" and that he went to verbally assault her.
He apparently took her into the bathroom,
taking her by the head and shaking her, then grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her again before pushing her against the bathroom wall.
Brad has taken responsibility for what he did, but not for the things he didn't do.
These new allegations are completely false, a representative for the actor said Tuesday in a statement given to CNN.
According to legal documents, Jolie and her six children have been unable to return to Chateau Miraval,
All of this is due to the "pain Pitt brought to the family that day."
The counterclaim asks the court to declare final the sale of Jolie's interest in order so she can move on.
