Almost a year ago Sia released her directorial debut 'Music.'
The film represented a failure for the singer's career.
After all this time, fans still haven't forgotten how bad the movie was and, of course, neither has she.
Unfortunately, all this left a scar on the singer.
Thus, in an interview with The New York Times, the composer recounted her experience after the film's release.
Sia talked about how the hate people spread on social media made her think about suicide and she ended up in rehab.
Since that huge stumble, Sia has not announced any new musical projects.
'Music' was released in February last year.
The film tells the story of Zu, a woman with a tragic past who is finding her way in the world when she receives the
news that she will become the sole guardian of her half-sister named Music, a young girl on the autism spectrum.
'Music' explores themes such as discovering one's inner voice and the complications and fortune of
finding and integrating a family.
However, not everything is as charming as it seems.
One of the decisions that doomed the film (and the singer) was hiring a neurotypical actress to
play a character with autism.
Many people criticized Sia for not hiring an actress with the disorder.
The film does not fulfill the true representation of people living under the condition of autism.
“I was suicidal and relapsed and went to rehab.”
The singer mentioned that her friend and comedian Kathy Griffin was with her throughout the process.
In addition, according to Variety, Sia also mentioned that she tried to work with a child with autism.
“Actually tried working with a beautiful young girl nonverbal on the spectrum” but “found it unpleasant and stressful.”
