"The Crown" and several other British talents and productions won the most important categories
During the 2021 edition of the Emmy Awards.
Kicking things off with the Netflix production based on the British Royal family,
The series got the most nominations of this edition, with 24
Including Best Actor and Actress In a drama series, with two of their actresses nominated;
Emma Corrin for her role of Princess Diana, and Olivia Colman for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II,
Best direction in a drama series, Best Drama Series, and Best Supporting Performer in a Drama Series.
The series took over most of these categories,
Winning over Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Netflix Bridgerton, and Disney+ The Mandalorian,
Especially Disney+ was a big competitor, as The Mandalorian and WandaVision were the next
Most nominated series after The Crown.
In the terms of the awards themselves, the winners were:
Olivia Colman, as Best Actress in a drama series,
The actress took the time to thank Netflix for her first Emmy Award,
Moreover, she dedicated the award to her late father.
The actor Josh O’Connor won Best Actor in a drama series, for his role as Prince Charles of Wales.
The direction award also went for The Crown, specifically to its creator Peter Morgan.
Overall, the biggest award was as “Outstanding Drama Series”.
At the same time, more actors and actresses from the U.K got awarded for their outstanding performances.
In one of the toughest categories, Kate Winslet got the award for Best Actress in a Limited Series,
After her work in HBO’s Mare Of Easttown, winning over the favorite, Anya Taylor-Joy
Still, The Queen’s Gambit got the award for Best Limited Series.
The Apple TV London-based comedy series, Ted Lasso won the award for Best Comedy after a successful first season.
