In fact, actress Olivia Colman got herself a nomination for her role as The Queen in the 3rd and 4th seasons of the show.
Colman already won a Golden Globe for her interpretation.
Now, Imelda Staunton, mostly known for her role as the despicable Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter saga.
Will take the lead as the British monarch, now that the series is taking place during the 90s and early 2000s.
The executive producer of the series, Suzanne Mackie, has already revealed that the 6th season will be the final.
As the writing is getting so close to the present, Peter Morgan, creator of the series, stated that:
"He simply cannot write another season. It would be such recent history that he hasn’t had time to gain a proper perspective”.
Consequently, we know now that Imelda's performance will be the final Queen we'll be seeing in the show.

Following the deaths of Princess Diana and Princess Margareth, as well as the fire at the Windsor Castle.
The shoot began this month at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire.
