According to The Hollywood Reporter's exclusive, actor and filmmaker Dev Patel is working on his sophomore film 'The Peasant', for Fifth Season and Thunder Road Pictures, the ones in charge of the incredibly successful and beloved 'John Wick' action franchise.
Just like with his directorial debut 'Monkey Man', Patel will direct, write and star in the film. The first time it was pretty successful, with the movie grossing $35 million worlwide on a $10 million budget, despite the short theatrical window, so it's not a shocker that he's coming back with his second original screenplay.
This time around, for what we know so far, it will be a new revenge thriller just like 'Monkey Man', but this time a period piece that will merge medieval knights with feudalism in India, adapted from a screenplay originally happening in Italia.
According to THR, the fillm will follow a shepherd going after a group of mercernaries that devastated his village to make them pay for their actions, and it'll probably have a lot of that spirituality and fantastical elements that his debut feature had.
It is risky of him making two movies back to back with the same center plot, but if he's able to bring as much nuance into this as he did the first time, it'll be equally successful if not even more. It'll probably start production later this year and it will be some time before we hear more about 'The Peasant', but with everyone involved, this is going to be an insanely entertaining and bloody experience.
