'Government Cheese' just premiered at SXSW 2025, and Apple TV+ just shared the official trailer for the upcoming comedy drama series starring British actor David Oyelowo ('Selma', 'Silo'), premiering on the streaming service on April 16.
We don't have any reviews yet after the premiere, but we do know some details about the plot and team behind it, so here's what you need to know beforehand.
The TV Show, created by Paul Hunter, lauded for his award winning comercial campaigns and music video credits, and TV writer Aeysha Carr ('Brooklyn Nine-Nine'), with Simone Missick ('All Rise'), Bokeem Woodbine ('Halo') and many more joining Oyelowo in the main cast.
'Government Cheese' it's a surreal dramedy happening in San Fernando Valley 1969, around the Chambers family and their lives when the man of the family, Hampton Chambers (Oyelowo), comes back from prison and makes his way to his home and his family, where he tries to prove he's a man reborn with his new invention.
But of course, things are never easy, and he will have to deal with the ways his family are different now, his past as a burglar, and many other surprises that the universe has in store for him. We'll see what the critics have to say about this new series, while we wait for the official premiere on Apple TV+.
