The plans for rebooting the beloved franchise of 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' have been around as early as 2014, but after scrapping that film reboot and turning it into a TV series for Prime Video, the plans changed to a direct sequel of the 1998 film, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson set to direct and a screenplay by Robinson and author Sam Lansky.
In March 2024, it was the start of the cast announcements, and as its usual with slashers, there's a lot of rising talents and really popular actors with the younger generations, as well as having Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt playing their original characters.
British actor Jonah Haur-King ('The Little Mermaid'), Madelyne Cline ('Glass Onion'), Sarah Pidgeon ('The Wilds') and Tyriq Withers ('Legacies') were the first announcements of actors joining this untitled sequel, with people believing the cast was complete since the first movies centered around a small group of friends, but later a lot of other young talents joined in, with Chase Sui Wonders ('Bodies, Bodies, Bodies'), Lola Tung ('The Summer I Turned Pretty'), Nicholas Alexander Chavez ('Grotesquerie') and supermodel and internet personality Gabbriette, with this being her second credit in a film.
The movie, although is going to premiere in the United States in just a couple of months, July 18, 2025, to be exact, doesn't have any promotional material out at the moment and besides just finishing production, it's still the "Untitled 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Sequel", meaning it doesn't have an official title yet.
This Columbia Pictures productions, with a distribution deal with Sony Pictures for the USA, will have to rush the last phase to be on time for the scheduled date.
