After the overwhelming success of the 'Dune' movies by Denis Villeneuve, 'Dune: Prophecy' was greenlit for HBO, starring British actress Emily Watson and Olivia Williams and following the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a group we already get to know the power of in the movies.
The series premiered on November 17 on HBO Max to rave reviews by the public and a lot of critical acclaim, positioning itself as numer 1 in the platform with just the first episode. With the success that followed and all the conversation around the show, it's not a surprise that showrunner Alison Schapker confirms that HBO has ordered for the second season already, even before the season one finale, that is going to come out December 22.
Airing on Sunday nights, HBO's top spot for mega shows like 'Game of Thrones', 'House of the Dragon' and others, it's obvious they want 'Dune: Prophecy' to keep doing great numbers, specially with such an ambitious production done with a fair budget in comparison to the other productions mentioned before.
Allegedly, the budget for the show was $20 million, althought it's just rumours and there's not an official statement about it. But it's a short budget when considering that 'House of the Dragon' was using about $20 million per episode.
Going on with a mainly British and Australian cast from season 1 with some additions that we're probably gonna find out soon, 'Dune: Prophecy' season 2 would start production next year, and will probably see the light by 2026, since it's a project that needs a lot of special effects and work to look good.
