Y2K is the upcoming American disaster horror comedy from the iconic studio, A24. Today, the company has unveiled the official trailer for its next comedy-horror film. The movie, starring Rachel Zegler (West Side Story/Snow White), Jaeden Martell (It), and Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), promises a wild ride back to the year 1999. So, the trailer introduces viewers to a chaotic New Year's Eve party that takes a terrifying turn. As the clock strikes midnight, the world is plunged into a digital apocalypse, leaving two high school juniors fighting for survival in a dial-up disaster.
Writer Evan Winter penned the screenplay for the film, set on New Year's Eve, 1999. Two talentless high school students (Martell, Dennison) decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium. When the clock strikes midnight, the night gets crazier than they ever thought. The trailer, featuring Chumbawamba's 1997 classic "Tubthumping," introduces us to Eli (Martell), whose mother, Robin (Alicia Silverstone), asks if "some lucky lady" is going to "get her midnight kiss" with the New Year on the horizon. Moreover, we learn that the girl Eli has his eye on is Laura (Zegler), who, upon running into Eli at a convenience store, tells him she is heading to a New Year's Eve party that should be, basically, "total disaster".
The cast also features Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding, rapper The Kid Laroi, Tim Heidecker, Eduardo Franco, Miles Robbins, Fred Hechinger and Daniel Zolghadri. In charge of former Saturday Night Live cast member Kyle Mooney making his directorial debut, the film will have its world premiere at this year's SXSW Film Festival and will later premiere in theaters on December 6th, as reported by Entertaintment Weekly.
