The Princess Diaries film series has been a mainstay in Disney's catalog, winning the affection of numerous viewers over the years. Anne Hathaway, known for her roles in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and Enchanted (2004), has headlined this teen drama-comedy. Hathaway recently confirmed that the third installment of the franchise is still in development.
In a recent interview, the actress shared some details about the current status of the project, although without going into too much detail: "We’re in a good place. That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet." The third part of The Princess Diaries is being developed by screenwriter Aadrita Mukerji (Supergirl and Reacher). On the other hand, Melissa K. Stack (The Other Woman) will be part of the production alongside Debra Martin Chase, who returns to her role as executive producer.
The first film in the saga arrived in 2001, featuring the story of Mia Thermopolis, played by Hathaway, a San Francisco teenager who discovers her true identity as the princess of Genovia. The film also stars Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music) as the flirtatious and charismatic queen. The sequel, released in 2004, follows Mia in her adult life as she adapts to her new surroundings as an heiress.
A topic of speculation surrounding The Princess Diaries 3 is whether Julie Andrews will reprise her role as Clarisse Renaldi. In this regard, Andrews expressed some time ago: "It's been a while since the two films, and I'm not sure, but sometimes it's better to leave good things as they are. I don't like it when people squeeze."
Although the project is still in the early stages of development, fans should expect more news on this sequel.
