Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the prequel to the acclaimed Mad Max saga, titled Furiosa. The actress, Golden Globe winner for The Queen's Gambit, will assume the role Charlize Theron played in the 2015 film. Also, the next installment, directed by George Miller, promises to expand the post-apocalyptic universe of the franchise. The plot takes place years before the events of the film and focuses on the origin story of the young Furiosa. Kidnapped by a motorcycle gang led by Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth, she must fight to survive and find her way back home. In addition, fans are expecting that the new film will maintain the intense, action-packed tone characteristic of the series.
In fact, Mad Max: Fury Road was not only a box office success with a gross of approximately $380 million, but also won six Oscars. The first promotional image of Taylor-Joy as Furiosa was first seen at the Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in Brazil and, a few hours later, Warner Bros. unveiled the explosive official trailer.
"As the world fell, the young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Navigating the Wasteland, they encounter the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. As the two Tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she gathers the means to find her way home," reads the official synopsis of the next story set in this cinematic universe.
In fact, with this new installment, Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures seek to expand and deepen the Mad Max universe, offering viewers a revealing look at one of its most iconic characters.
