Emerald Fennell, Oscar-winning screenwriter of Promising Young Woman, returns to the silver screen with Saltburn, a passionate film about the English aristocracy starring the always enigmatic and sometimes terrifying Barry Keoghan. This time, Fennell not only directs the film, but also serves as screenwriter and producer. This is her first directorial venture for a feature film since her debut in 2021, which earned her one of the few women nominated for an Oscar for Best Director.
Keoghan, who recently received an Oscar nomination for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin, is not the only familiar face in this eccentric summer story. The film also boasts a star-studded cast. First there is Oscar nominee for her role in Gone Girl, Rosamund Pike, who returns to film since the release of I Care a Lot on Netflix during 2020. Also, there is Australian actor Jacob Elordi, who gained prominence through HBO's TV drama Euphoria. The cast also includes Carey Mulligan, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver and Archie Madekwe.
Margot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, is producing the film. The company of the acclaimed actress who starred in the box office phenomenon Barbie has a track record of successful films, including the Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated drama I, Tonya and Promising Young Woman. The film will have its international premiere at the 67th edition of the BFI London Film Festival on October 4. It will also be screened simultaneously in several cinemas in the UK. Its official theatrical release in the U.S. will be November 24, which will position it well for the 2024 awards season. In the meantime, the film has already revealed its first official images and a first official teaser that you can already watch.
