The historic success of 'Barbie' in theaters continues to grow and is already one of the 25 highest-grossing films of all time. However, Warner has decided that the time has come to think about the next exhibition window and has just announced when we will be able to see the film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling at home: September 5, 2023.
However, that date is not the date of its arrival on HBO Max, the platform that will include it exclusively in its catalog this fall, since that is when we will be able to buy it and rent it digitally.
This decision by Warner means that 'Barbie' will have a theatrical exclusivity of just 46 days, something in line with the usual lately in the studio. However, it is surprising that the studio did not want to squeeze it more, as it is still number 1 at the U.S. box office. Of course, by September 5 it will have lost that position, but there is zero doubt that it will still be in the Top 10 and adding a good amount of additional millions each week.
Moreover, the news comes on the same day that 'Barbie' has dethroned 'The Dark Knight' to become the highest-grossing Warner film of all time in the United States. Greta Gerwig's third feature film has accumulated 537.4 million dollars there, surpassing the 534.9 million of Christopher Nolan's film.
However, internationally it has not yet achieved Warner's gold medal, which is still in the hands of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' with 1.342 million. However, it is only a matter of days or a couple of weeks before 'Barbie' snatches the crown, as it currently has 1.191 million.
