The new series from the 'Star Wars' factory already has a premiere date. Disney+ has announced that 'Ashoka', starring Rosario Dawson, will launch on the platform on August 23, and has done so accompanied by a powerful 30-second spot where the tone and theme of the series is already elucidated, which you can see below.
This is how Disney contextualizes its new flagship product: "Set after the fall of the Empire, 'Star Wars: Ahsoka' follows former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy." In addition to Dawson's role as Ahsoka, Natasha Liu Bordizzo will play the Mandalorian Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead the Twi'lek Hera Syndulla or the recently departed Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, among others.
Many of these characters that will appear in 'Ashoka', including of course the protagonist, are more than familiar to 'Star Wars' fans for their presence in the animated series 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' and 'Star Wars: Rebels'. Otherwise, In the case of Ashoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Padawan of the togruta species, the character reversed the initial criticism she generated in her first appearances to become one of the most complex and charismatic female characters in the 'Star Wars' universe, which is why she made the leap to live action with appearances in the second season of 'The Mandalorian' and in 'The Book of Boba Fett', with Rosario Dawson as an actress.
Finally, after the cameos, which already showed Disney's interest in Ashoka, it's time to delve even deeper into the history of the togruta with her own series. We'll just have to wait a couple of months to see what's in store.
