Camila Mendes, best known for her role in 'Riverdale' has had to drop out of Sony's upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, where she was going to play one of the main roles. Due to scheduling conflicts with her role as Teela, a warrior and Captain of the Royal Guard of Eternia, in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films' 'Masters of the Universe,' Mendes could not accommodate the production schedule. Despite Camila Mendes' departure, I Know What You Did Last Summer will move forward with Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King. Additionally, Sony continues to negotiate with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to reprise their iconic roles in this new adaptation of the horror classic.
With this reboot of the 1997 film, Sony aims to revitalize the story for a new generation. The original film follows a group of friends who, after a drunken summer night, hit and kill a man. Fearful of the consequences, they dispose of the body. A year later, one of the friends begins receiving threatening messages from a mysterious figure who claims to know their secret. A masked killer, armed with a hook, then begins targeting the group. Camila Mendes joined the cast back in July.
On the other hand, in Masters of the Universe Camila Mendes will star alongside Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man. Camila Mendes portrays Teela, a warrior and Captain of the Royal Guard of Eternia, tasked with protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam, who is also known as He-Man. I Know What you did Last Summer production will begin around spring 2025 with several new faces.
