Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep will take on the lead role in the upcoming adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's critically acclaimed novel, The Corrections. According to Variety, CBS Studios will develop this project. A release date or associated streaming platform has not yet been determined. This project marks the second attempt to adapt Franzen's novel for television. The pilot episode for the show was shoot in 2012 starring Chris Cooper and Dianne Wiest, but the project came to an early cancelation.
Published in 2001, The Corrections focuses on a Midwestern family whose patriarch gathers his family for a Christmas reunion due to health concerns. The novel follows the lives of the parents and their three adult children over several decades. Meryl Streep, 75, will portray the family matriarch, a woman obsessed with the idea of one last celebration before her husband's dementia worsens. Winner of two Academy Awards for Best Actress, two BAFTAs, three Emmys, and three Golden Globes, including Best Actress, Streep's extensive career encompasses hits like The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia!, and The Bridges of Madison County, solidifying her status as one of the world's greatest cinematic icons as both actress and singer.
In fact, one of her latest credits include her supporting role on Hulu's comedy mistery, Only Murders in the Building alongside Martin Short, Selena Gomez and Steve Martin, where not only makes an extraordinary acting performance, but as a singer as well. In recent years the actress has starred in The Laudromat, The Prom, and Little Women. This project will mark her first lead role in a long minute. Currently, there is not streaming service or network involved in the project.
