HBO has released two new previews for the highly anticipated second season of its flagship series, House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones spin-off that revitalized interest in George R.R. Martin's universe in 2022 after the disappointment caused by the end of the original series. These previews, along with the confirmation of a June 16 premiere date on MAX, further immerse viewers in the impending war between the Black and Green sides in Westeros.
The first season concluded with the coronation of Aegon II Targaryen, followed by Princess Rhaenys' decision to refrain from attacking the Greens. In the Black side preview, we witness Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen's team preparing to launch the war after suffering the loss of a close family member, in a moment of determination, the queen expresses, "I want to fight this war and win it." In addition, we watch as her army consolidates at Dragonstone, with Prince Daemon exerting his influence to gain support.
On the other side, the green side, led by Alicent and backed by his cunning father Otto and his sons, Aegon and Aemond, is determined to keep the throne for Aegon. Convinced that the late King Viserys preferred him as his successor, they are willing to resort to any measure to achieve their goal, even to the point of sacrificing lives, including those of their own family.
The series presents both points of view in a balanced way, offering the viewer a complete vision of Rhaenyra and Alicent's arguments. By showing the perspectives of both figures, the audiovisual project challenges the viewer to understand the motivations and desires of each one.
