This 2023 marks a decade since the release of Frozen, an animated film that captivated generations with its plot of filial love. The identity dilemma of Elsa, a princess who runs away fearful of the effect of her magical powers, and her sister Anna's journey to find her, made the film the highest grossing film of 2013 with more than one billion dollars in box office. Naturally, the company still has plans to expand the story and a fourth installment is in development, according to CEO Bob Iger, who revealed on November 16.
From the brand new World of Arendelle theme park in Hong Kong Disneyland, the executive confirmed developments in the future of the animated saga. "Frozen 3 is in the works and there could be a Frozen 4 in the works as well," Iger stated for Good Morning America's cameras, although he did not share specific details about plots or release dates.
This bet is in line with a series of previously communicated strategies, in which the CEO assured investors that his studio is leaning toward backing its most important brands and franchises. In February of this same year, during a quarterly earnings call, he announced that the third part of Frozen was in production, along with a new installment of the Toy Story saga and a sequel to the 2016 hit Zootopia.
Iger's announcement could not have had a better backdrop, as it was in the franchise's newest real-world expansion: the World of Arendelle theme park at Hong Kong Disneyland, where you can interact with characters from the franchise, such as Olaf.
While we wait for more news about the tapes, you can enjoy the two Frozen films on Disney+.
