The anticipated trailer for the film Saltburn, directed by filmmaker Emerald Fennell, is oficially out. As expected, the new teaser makes it even clearer what kind of story we are in for. Ball gowns and wild parties are the main elements that adorn this mise-en-scène; a story that, far from being just another youth drama, relies on the exotic, mysterious and sexual to expose its protagonists. Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi and Rosamund Pike are the main faces of what promises to be a crazy and dark cinematic party.
The plot centers on student life at Oxford University in 2006 and follows two young academic stars. Elordi's character (Felix Catton) introduces Keoghan's character (Oliver Quick) to his own world, an aristocratic place lined with greenery that is centered around a luxurious mansion. There is also Felix's mother Elsbeth, played by the talented Pike (remembered for her brutal role in Gone), who serves as a matriarchal figure during Oliver's stay.
According to the trailer, the story will explore themes of privilege and desire. The teaser also reveals a closer look at the relationship between the characters of Oliver and Felix, the two main faces of this erotic thriller. As such, all indications are that Keoghan's character's journey to the Catton family estate in Saltburn will be an epic of self-discovery that will forever change Quick.
Fennell, Margot Robbie and Josey McNamara are the producers of the film. So far, it has received positive reviews on the fall festival circuit, especially for the central performances.
Saltburn will hit select theaters on November 17, followed by a worldwide release on November 22.
