DC's cinematic universe is getting ready to welcome a new superhero, and not just any superhero, but its first Latino protagonist: Jaime Reyes, better known as Blue Beetle. Angel Manuel Soto is the filmmaker of the film and it will hit theaters on August 17, and the first reactions are already spreading on social networks. The comments received praise the performance of star actor Xolo Maridueña and his co-stars, but also highlight the ingenious incorporation of references to Mexican culture. Jaime Reyes (Maridueña) is a recent college graduate who returns home full of aspirations for his future. Fate has other plans for him when he finds an ancient alien biotech artifact. It then attaches itself to his body and gives him a suit of armor with extraordinary powers.
In fact, Blue Beetle will be the start of a new DC closely supervised by James Gunn. The movie already has its first reactions among which stand out: "Blue Beetle was a great surprise. After a shaky start, the superhero movie is full of laughs, action and a lot of heart. Xolo Maridueña is great, Bruna Marquezine is great, George Lopez is hilarious and Adriana Barraza is a marvel as Nana. Bring the whole family and bring tissues," says CineMovie on Twitter.
In addition, the Puerto Rican critic Fico Cangiano also comments on networks: "Happy to report that Blue Beetle is really entertaining at the movies. Not only is it a fantastic introduction to Jaime Reyes as a character, but also a love letter to Latino culture that focuses on family as a foundation. Fun, action-packed, with great visuals (the costume looks and feels amazing) and a lot of heart, Blue Beetle's first live-action film is a win for longtime fans and the future of the DCU."
