Only Murders in the Building will soon return with its third season and, this time, much of its story will take place in the Broadway theater. Hulu has shared the official trailer today, ahead of the release of the new episodes beginning August 8. Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short reprise their leading roles. "Season three finds Charles, Oliver and Mabel investigating a murder backstage at a Broadway show. Ben Glenroy is a Hollywood action star whose Broadway debut is short by his untimely death. Aided by castmate Loretta Durkin, our trio embarks on their toughest case to date, all while director Oliver desperately tries to put his show back together," reveals its official synopsis.
In a star-studded lineup that can only be described as unmissable, Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd have been signed on for the new installment of the mystery comedy. The production, which has become renowned for featuring celebrities in memorable roles each season, has already seen appearances by Sting and Amy Schumer in its past seasons. Streep and Rudd will not be playing themselves, but will instead bring to life characters Ben Glenroy and Loretta Durkin, respectively.
In fact, the brainchild of Steve Martin and John Hoffman (Grace & Frankie), Only Murders in the Building follows three denizens of New York's Upper West Side: Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short) and Mabel (Gomez). This quirky triad share a fascination with true crime, and, after an unexpected twist, find themselves investigating one in their own luxury building. As they unravel the mystery behind the death of Arconia resident Tim Kono, they also embark on the adventure of documenting their findings in a podcast.
