Kanye West has always been popular, in his own way, however, the artist has lately been earning the hatred of many. In fact, in recent weeks, social networks, companies and celebrities have ended all kinds of alliances with the rapper Ye. And so Ye, also known as Kanye West, has become a magnet for controversy.
It all started in the first weeks of October, when the rapper wore a shirt with the slogan 'White Lives Matter' and dressed several black models in clothes with the same phrase at his YZY fashion show at Paris fashion week; the slogan has been linked by the Anti-Defamation League to the Klu Klux Klan. Then, in an episode of the 45-minute "Drink Champs" podcast aired earlier this month, the rapper made numerous outrageous comments. All of this really brought consequences for Kanye, who to this day suffers financial repercussions for himself and his brand partners. On the Podcast, the rapper said "I can say anti-Semitic things and Adidas can't let me. now what?."
He also suggested that George Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose, not police brutality. And he repeated several anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, doubling down on them in later interviews. All of this only brought consequences, and now the Floyd family is suing the rapper. Since Ye's anti-Semitic comments, companies have come under pressure to take further action against him. Adidas, in cutting ties with the rapper said it "does not tolerate anti-Semitism and any other kind of hate speech" and that the effect was immediate. Other brands that cut ties with Kanye include Gap, Instagram, Twitter, Balenciaga and Creative Artists Agency. It is very possible that very soon, other names will be added to the list.
