Indiana Jones is not ‘retiring’. A fifth film in the franchise starring Harrison Ford as the mythical archaeologist is already in development, and Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger has announced plans to make more, with or without Harrison Ford.
Iger revealed to The Hollywood Reporter: "Right now, we’re focused on a reboot, or a continuum and then a reboot of some sort."
Iger confirmed that the 73-year-old actor will definitely be reprising the role for the next movie – which is scheduled for a 2019 release with Steven Spielberg on board to direct – and will carry on from 2008 film ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’.
He said: "We [got] Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the film. But then what’s the direction? I’ve had discussions about what the direction is, [but] I don’t want to get into it."
Although Iger doesn’t expect the ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise to ever be as big as ‘Star Wars’ – which Disney bought the rights to and has brought back with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ which starred Ford as Han Solo once again – he sees a bright future for the iconic Hollywood character.
He said: "Yes, I do [see making more films] I don’t think it reaches the scale of the universe of ‘Star Wars’, but I see making more. It won’t be just a one-off."
