After 5 years of 'I'm Thinking Of Ending Things', Charlie Kaufman is back with 'Later The War', starring British actor Eddie Redmayne, known for his Oscar winning performance in 'The Theory of Everything', as well as his performance in 'The Danish Girl'. British actress Patsy Ferran is also joining, known primarily for her work in theatre, but with various credits in film and television as well, with Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie in the MCU) being the last actor to join the production this far.
Just like most of his recent live action projects, Kaufman is going to write and direct 'Later The War', adapting a short story by author Iddo Gefen, selected from his antology 'Jerusalem Beach' called 'Debby's Dream House'. The original material follows the life of a man whose job is creating dreams for other people, becoming nightmares as he keeps doing it.
Of course, this is only the source material, and we don't really know what Kaufman will do with this idea, since he's always coming up with wildly existential and elaborate plots for his original scripts, so we might be seeing that essence in the upcoming film.
Eddie Redmayne is currently working in the TV Show 'Day of the Jackal', and his acting as the protagonist has been receiving praise since coming out, while Ferran features in 3 upcoming projects this 2025, 'Mickey17' by Bong Joon-ho, 'Jay Kelly' by Noah Baumbach and 'Hot Milk' by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. And Thompson is currently filming an adaptation of the play Hedda Gabbler with director Nia DaCosta.
We'll probably get more details about 'Later The War' in 2026, since it is really early in the process and filming won't begin until the second half of 2025.
