Starting February 2, 2025, The BBC One started broadcasting in the UK this adaptation of 'Miss Austen', the best selling novel by author Gill Hornby, and the series quickly became a critics darling, gathering a 90% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with the first season.
Starring British actress Keeley Hawes in the role of Cassandra Austen, and the mini series follows Cassandra's life after the death of her sister Jane (Patsy Ferran) and their relationship before she passed. Explaining why she decides to burn down the letters Jane left her.
'Miss Austen' It's a 4 episode mini series, with Alfred Enoch, Jessica Hynes, Synnøve Karlsen, Liv Hill, Max Irons and many more in the cast, counting with a lot of talent to bring this historical drama to life, since all of this is happening in the 1800's.
Irish filmmaker Aisling Walsh is behind the directing of the 4 parts series, while the screenplay is Andrea Gibb's work, production finished back in 2023, and after the UK release the series is now going abroad with PBS, starting broadcast in May 2 for the United States.
We don't know if they are gonna develop a second season for the show, but now that it's out and people are loving it, this might open the doors for more Gill Hornsby adaptations in the future.
