A new musical biopic is on the horizon. After a 2024 in which we have already seen biopics about Bob Marley ('Bob Marley: One Love') and Amy Winehouse ('Back to Black'), it's time for Bob Dylan. It's titled 'A Complete Unknown' and features Timothée Chalamet as the main star. The first teaser is out. In it you can see the star of 'Call Me by Your Name' and 'Dune' in the skin of the Minnesota musician, in a mimicry that, as usual in these productions, goes beyond the physical resemblance. In addition, this is one of the most striking features of the trailer, where we hear Chalamet singing the song 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' with his own voice, advancing a soundtrack in which the actor will exercise his vocal cords to bring them closer to Dylan's voice. At the moment the release date is unknown.
James Mangold directs 'A Complete Unknown', also responsible for the biographical 'Ford v Ferrari', and has in its cast, among others, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro and Boyd Holbrook. In addition, Jay Cocks, Martin Scorsese's collaborator on 'The Age of Innocence' is in charge of the screenplay.
Although there are precedents that take us back several decades, such as 'Bird', about Charlie Parker, 'The Doors', dedicated to Jim Morrison, or 'The Walk', focused on Johnny Cash, we could date the beginning of the fever for adapting the lives of musical celebrities in 2018, after the commercial success of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. In fact, the film that won Rami Malek an Oscar was followed by 'Rocketman', where Taron Egerton played Elton John. And the string could continue with Baz Luhrmann's 'Elvis'.
