After starring in the series The Regime, Kate Winslet returns to film in a movie that will explore the life of Lee Miller, the iconic photographer who recorded harrowing events in World War II. With the release of the first trailer by Roadside Attractions and Vertical, audiences have been given a glimpse of Lee (the film's title) and the actress' physical transformation to represent her character's later years.
The teaser immerses the audience in Miller's complex life, from her days as a model to becoming a war correspondent for British Vogue magazine. Miller covered the front lines during the years 1944 and 1945, and portrayed the advance of the Allied forces as well as the liberation of Nazi concentration camps. The drama's premise advances, "Determined to document the truth of the Nazi regime, and despite the adversities that loomed over women correspondents, Lee captured some of the most important images of World War II, for which she paid an enormous price."
In the opening scenes, there's a Miller who struggles to address the brutality of wartime conflict with her camera in hand. Through flashbacks, you can see pivotal moments, such as her determination to work from the front during the Normandy invasion and her direct encounter with the horrors of war. It also discusses the reluctance the photojournalist faced when she set out to do this work.
The Ellen Kuras-directed project also adds Andrea Riseborough, Marion Cotillard, Josh O'Connor and Alexander Skarsgård to the cast. It had its first screening at the Toronto Film Festival, where it garnered mixed reviews. It will hit UK theaters in September 2024.
