Taylor Swift has outsold Marvel and DC Universe movies. The Eras Tour concert film continues to reassert its box office dominance, with presales already eclipsing some of the most recent UCM and DCU hits. First announced last August 31, the international recording artist's upcoming concert film has already held off the likes of The Exorcist: Believer, Sucker Punch Wall Street and The Marsh King's Daughter.
These films have been reluctant to compete directly with the artist and have changed their original October release dates. According to a new report published by Deadline, pre-sales for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour have already surpassed $65 million and are on track to reach the projected $100 million. By comparison, presales for some of Marvel and DC's most recent releases reached $60 million. This was the case for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and $42 million for Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's The Batman. However, fans of the singer still have a long way to go to match the pre-sales of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which reached an impressive $120 million in 2021.
Taylor Swift, who began her music career at just 14 years old, has become one of the most influential artists of the modern era, breaking sales and streaming records with her albums and driving unprecedented demand for concert tickets. While many of the singer's fans may not have been able to get tickets to see her live, the release of her concert film will ensure that a much wider audience will have the opportunity to see her in action. Not surprisingly, Marvel and DC have lagged far behind this woman's success.
