Although for many the Scream saga has gone on too long, some fans say that the latest films are among the best in the current horror genre. Although Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is still part of the cast, the franchise has welcomed since the fifth installment a new cast of young protagonists who deal with the threat of Ghostface alongside the veterans of the saga.
Despite not having Sidney Prescott's character in Scream VI, the film was able to maintain the type thanks to its new protagonists, Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) and her sister Tara (Jenna Ortega), as well as the return of veteran Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), who was presumed dead in Scream 4.
The sixth installment of the franchise hints that we'll have at least one more movie on the way, as the door remains open about Sam Carpenter's inner darkness despite the fact that we see the character throw away Ghostface's mask when he picks it up off the ground at the end of the last film.
While nothing is official on the matter yet, rumors are still swirling about a possible Scream 7. The latest reports come from Bloody Disgusting, where sources claim that the new movie is in the works, but with a small catch.
Apparently, this new installment would not involve Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directors who have resumed the saga since its fifth film. However, reports detail that the new director would be Christopher Landon, who has worked on films such as Happy Death Day.
