Shawn Mendes had already postponed some concerts of his tour, but now the Canadian singer and songwriter announced Wednesday on his social networks the cancellation of the more than 70 concerts that remained to be held on his latest world tour to take care of his mental health.
"As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since i wasn't totally ready for the roll that being bacj on the road would take on me" indicates at the beginning of his personal message to his followers. In it, he goes on to explain that, despite the initial desire to start this "tour" after the long hiatus caused by the covid-19 pandemic, he was not aware "how difficult touring would be after this time away".
"After speaking more with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that i need to take the time I've never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger. I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK/Europe. "
Shawn should have played a few shows tonight in Washington DC as part of an extended North American tour of nearly 40 dates. The singer was also about to start touring Europe on May 31, 2023, with two consecutive stops in Italy, ending on August 1 in Dublin.
After stating that this temporary retirement from the stage does not mean that he will not release "new music" in the near future, the artist apologized to all his fans for his decision. "I Love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey" concludes his message.
