Daniel Kaluuya is producing a 'Barney' live action with A24

The news are out that the project by British actor and filmmaker Daniel Kaluuya of co-producing and developing a 'Barney' live action is moving along with A24 and Mattel Films, now with actress and writer Ayo Edebiri in charge of the script, and in talks to star in the film.

Since 2019, Mattel Films has been working on putting live action films out there, and Barney was one of the IP's they were showing interest in bringing to life, and after the overwhelming success of 'Barbie' is it not a surprise that they are moving forward with this, probably using a similar approach and catering to the demographic that grew up watching Barney on the TV and making it an adult movie instead of trying to convince children to care for something they don't recognize as much.

Daniel Kaluuya is producing through his company 59% productions, while Andrew Scannell and Kevin McKeon are the ones in on the live action for Mattel Films, with A24 having the distribution rights for the film once is time for the rollout. Ayo Edebiri, known primarily for her award winning role in the Dramedy series 'The Bear', has various writing and producing credits across different TV Shows, will be working on the script and 'Barney' would be her first feature film as a writer, with sources saying they are in talks for her to star in the film.

Let's hop the studios focus on moving forward with this new take in the children IP, and it becomes the next big thing for Mattel Films, since the only other project we know something about from their plans is Lena Dunham's 'Polly Pocket'.
